1st Grade Teacher
Hi, my name is Mrs. Lisa Tolnay. I have been teaching for over 30 years. I have taught 5th, 2nd, 3rd, Kindergarten, 1st in my second school, Infant of Prague and now again beginning 2017-2018 school year here. I don’t have a favorite. I loved something about each and every grade. Teaching is such a rewarding occupation. The kids are always making me feel so blessed to be part of their lives. In addition to teaching I am a mother of two daughters who have made me so proud as well. My daughter Emily is a fashion designer in NYC and my daughter Rachel works in health care. I love spending time with my family whenever we get the chance. Much laughter and love is always part of my time with my family and students! I am in charge of running the Summer Sparklers program each summer. Each year it is a fun filled program and I look forward to it . The teachers and I work hard to make the program the success that it is every year. My free time is spent with my husband and friends, traveling and finding great deals is what I enjoy when I get the chance!

Math- We just finished our chapter on Measurement and the kids did a fabulous job on the Chapter test. We began Chapter 10 which is on Data. We will be learning about how to collect data and then graph it in different ways like bar graphs and other forms of graphing. Even though we are done with telling time please encourage telling time when it is on the hour and half hour. The kids really liked learning how to tell time.
Handwriting & Spelling- We are now in the Final Quarter of First Grade so all children will be graded on the following things for daily spelling homework: 1) Wednesdays & Thursdays will now be writing sentences using the first 5 words and then the last 5 words in sentences. 2) Sentences need to begin with capital letter and end with proper punctuation 3) All words need to be spaced properly so that each sentence is able to be read. 4) Neatness is something that should be very important as well
***I know kids love to see a 4 on top of their homework or classwork but a 4 can only be earned if your child shows work that is an example of what a second grader would be doing.
THINKING OF WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR KIDS DURING SUMMER BREAK….. CONSIDER OUR SUMMER SPARKLERS PROGRAM
