Junior High

At the junior high level, learning continues to develop with consideration for the whole child. Instruction is departmentalized as students begin their transition from an elementary program to high school disciplines. Student needs are met as teachers utilize research-based practices to maximize learning for every student.

St. Amelia offers its middle school students access to the latest technology that not only supports their learning in the classroom, but prepares them for life in high school and beyond. Students are instructed according to diocesan and New York State curriculum requirements. Students have access to a variety of remedial and accelerated programs available to meet their special needs and promote development of their special talents. This includes two Regents courses, Algebra and Living Science, as well as full time resource support and after school tutoring offered in all subject areas.

While emphasis in all grades is placed upon academic subjects, also essential to St. Amelia’s curriculum is religious instruction, physical education, foreign language, computer education, art, music, dance, and drama. Often student work is part of local and national displays and publications. Other work is displayed within the school, in various school publications, made part of our annual art festival and displayed for the school community at Home School Association functions.

Parents, students, and the school conference twice a year, and upon request, to discuss student progress. Additionally, student evaluations are shared twice quarterly, and parents have the option to utilize our ParentPortal which is constantly updated by teachers and show student’s current grades. Student work is assessed by means of formal testing, portfolio assessments, homework assignments, long-term projects including research papers, effort, and class participation. Standardized test are administered according to New York State guidelines and are used to further evaluate student progress.

St. Amelia is a learning community where values are developed, friendships grow, and knowledge is attained. This holistic education, focused on Jesus Christ, is supplemented in Junior High by the requirement of outside service. Continued character education enhances the development of all St. Amelia graduates. The school is firmly established in the community, dedicated to excellence in the education since 1955.
